An Instagram profile that sells: bio, highlights and the first 9 posts
Ads and Reels bring people to your profile, but the decision is made inside the profile. A new visitor usually decides within a few seconds whether to stay or leave. Here is how an Instagram profile that sells is built — from the name to the first 9 posts.
The 5-second test
Someone opening your profile for the first time should find answers to three questions within 5 seconds:
- Who is this and what do they sell?
- Why do I need it?
- How do I order or get in touch?
If the answers aren't there, even the best ad won't sell.
Name and username
- The Name field is searchable on Instagram. Include a keyword, not just your brand: "Sofas Tashkent | Furniture".
- Username — short, easy to read and the same as on your other social networks.
Bio structure
- What you do and for whom.
- The main benefit or advantage: "made in 5 days", "instalments available".
- Proof: "3,000+ customers" (only if the number is real).
- A call to action and a link: Telegram, website or an order form.
On a professional account, add contact buttons and your address.
Highlights
| Highlight | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Prices | Exact prices or "from ..." |
| Reviews | Customer feedback |
| Our work | Results, before/after |
| Delivery | Terms and timing |
| FAQ | Frequent questions |
| About us | Team, address, opening hours |
Use matching cover designs and replace outdated stories.
The first 9 posts
The top of the grid is your profile's shop window. Pin three posts:
- Who you are and what you offer.
- Your strongest review or case.
- Your main offer and how to order.
The rest should mix content types — useful, proof, process — in the proportions from our content plan article.
Checklist
- The account is public and professional (business or creator).
- The bio link works.
- The answer to "how much?" is inside the profile.
- The latest post is no older than 1–2 weeks.
- Comments and messages get replies.
Common mistakes
- "Price in DM" — most people leave without writing.
- A bio full of slogans and no specifics.
- A broken or outdated link.
- Highlights last updated a year ago.
Conclusion
A profile that sells is the cheapest booster for your ads: it lowers cost per lead because more visitors stay and message you. For setting up ads, see our Instagram ads guide; for selling through Stories, our Stories article.
