Ad account blocked: what to do and how to prevent it

A blocked ad account is one of the most unpleasant things that can happen to a business owner or ads specialist: campaigns stop and the flow of leads is cut off. Here is why Meta blocks accounts, what to do after a ban and how to reduce the risk.

Why accounts get blocked

ReasonExample
Breaking advertising policiesPromises like "guaranteed weight loss" or "earn $10,000 a month"
Referring to personal attributes"Are you overweight?", "Do you have debts?"
Prohibited or restricted productsSome medicines, weapons, dubious financial services
Payment problemsDeclined payments, frequently changing cards
Suspicious activityA sudden large budget on a new account, logins from many devices and VPNs
Linked assetsLinks to a previously banned profile or Page

What to do after a ban

  1. Open Account Quality (business.facebook.com/accountquality) and find out exactly what is restricted: the ad account, a Page, a personal profile or the Business Manager.
  2. Read the reason. If a specific ad is named, fix it to comply with the policies.
  3. Request a review — once, with a clear and short explanation.
  4. Wait for the answer. Sending the same request repeatedly or opening dozens of new accounts only makes things worse.
  5. While you wait, if you have another verified account, run only fully compliant ads there.

How to reduce the risk

  • Verify your business and turn on two-factor authentication for every admin.
  • A stable payment method — don't change it often and keep enough balance.
  • Increase budgets gradually, especially on a new account.
  • Don't refer to personal attributes: write "a solution to this problem", not "your illness".
  • Don't guarantee results, and avoid before/after images in sensitive topics.
  • Keep a backup admin — access shouldn't depend on one person.
  • Never give an agency your password — grant partner access through Business Manager.

If you work with an agency

The ad account and Page should belong to your business, with the agency working through granted access. That way, even when the partnership ends, the history, audiences and Pixel data stay with you. More in our article on choosing an ads specialist.

Conclusion

Most bans come from ignoring the rules and rushing. A verified business, stable payments, careful copy and gradual growth are the best protection. To set up an account properly from scratch, see our Instagram ads guide.
