How to validate a business idea before you advertise
The most expensive mistake is spending months and money on a product nobody wants. Before committing a big ad budget, you can test demand cheaply. Here are 6 ways to validate an idea within a few weeks and at minimal cost.
1. Study competitors
If nobody sells anything like it, there may be no demand — or you've found a gap. If there are many competitors, demand exists, but you'll need to stand out. Look at their prices, offers and reviews, and find their active ads in the Meta Ad Library. More in our competitor analysis article.
2. Check search queries
Google Trends and Yandex Wordstat show how often people search for your product and in which months demand rises. Check queries in both Uzbek and Russian.
3. Talk to potential customers
Hold 10–15 conversations. Don't ask "Would you buy this?" — people say yes to be polite. Ask about past behaviour instead: "How do you solve this problem now? How much did you spend on it last time?"
4. Build a test page
A simple page, an Instagram profile or a Telegram bot: the offer, the price and an "Order" button. Even before the product exists, you'll see how much interest it attracts. For what the profile should look like, see an Instagram profile that sells.
5. Run a small ad test
Run ads for a few days on a limited budget and measure CTR, cost per lead and the number of leads. Compare several creatives and offers — our A/B testing guide will help.
6. Take pre-orders
The strongest signal is people paying before the product exists. Be honest: give a delivery date and refund the money if you miss it.
Comparing the methods
| Method | Cost | What it shows | Signal strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Competitors | Free | Whether a market exists | Low |
| Search queries | Free | Demand volume and seasonality | Medium |
| Interviews | Time | The problem and real behaviour | Medium |
| Test page | Low | Interest | Medium |
| Ad test | Budget | Cost per lead | High |
| Pre-orders | Low | Willingness to pay | Highest |
How to judge the results
Write down your success criteria before the test: for example, "cost per lead below X and at least N pre-orders". Otherwise it's easy to read any result as "good". Friends' likes and "great idea!" are not validation.
Conclusion
Test first, adjust, and only then scale. To know exactly who you're selling to, read about target audiences; to plan money for testing and growth, see planning a marketing budget. Level Marketing can help you launch a test campaign and analyse the results.
